Me and you and everyone we know

This week we watched the movie Me and You and Everyone We Know. The movie was not something I would normally watch. If I had turned on the movie in my free time I probably would have turned it off in the first ten minutes. This movie was simply not the comedy that I enjoy.

I understand the theme of connectivity in the film, how all the different groups in the film thrive to form a connection with someone. Regardless of age, gender, race, socioeconomic status, everyone wants to form connections with others. Most of the time these connections start as awkward. It is awkward to start a conversation with someone, or to continue to get to know someone. This film brought to light the awkwardness that we experience everyday.

Once we discussed the themes of this movie I thought about the awkwardness we experience in our everyday life. When we see someone in class that we find cute the only way to start a conversation is to awkwardly say hi. Nothing screams awkward more than a first date. When you go to a restaurant you can spot a couple on a first date within seconds.

In many different scenes of different movies, first dates and connections are depicted in different ways. In the movie How Do You Know the blind date also expresses awkwardness in its own way. I do believe that Me and You and Everyone We Know took this awkwardness to a different level.

  1. My first impression of the film was the same. This is not a film I would watch on my own time, but I do see the themes throughout the film, even though I didn't understand them at first.
